X-C Skiing in PA State Parks
We've complied a list of X-C areas in Eastern Pennsylvania. It's subject to change, and probably very out of date, so call before you go. The information is in the following format:

Keep in mind that these areas won't have the trail layout or grooming machines that we've come to expect on most New Hope trips. They may have snowmobile tracking or snow-covered forest trails. In other words: what XC used to be before the skating revolution. It would be a good idea to bring something other than your new $350 skating skis. (That's why your first pair of skis eventually become your "rock" skis.) The economics of ski areas are such that the nearest (to the Philadelphia area) "real" grooming machine is in New York State. But, if the snow is right, you can find good local skiing.

Cross-country skiers utilize the bicycle trail and the roads in the day-use area which are closed to vehicular traffic during the winter. Hiking trails (2.5 miles) in the nature education area (steeper terrain) are also available.
